Anon, you just gave me an excuse to go on a long rant about one of my special interests. Obviously you don't have to read it all since I already know I'll go off-topic. Spoilers ahead, assuming you finished the game. All of the main characters were genuinely so likeable to me I cannot pick a single favorite. They all have at least one trait that boosts them up in my eyes. Maybe I'll say Tomosane in terms of relatability? But I found Zakuro very cute... Yuki was also the coolest... Takuji was, Takuji. 😅 I'm a very tiny mixed about Hasaki cause of the incest trope they basically forced upon her, which was uncomfortable to sit through. All I could hope for was that she'd grow out of it since she seems like, 15. I loved Suba but I'm not gonna defend the pedo shit they kept flashing us with. I'll acknowledge the bad stuff just as much as the good stuff. Just like how I can say that Togainu had bad writing (friendly fire), I can also speak up about the unnecessary sex scenes in Suba. I'll talk about Togainu in details another day... "God forbid an eroge has sex scenes" Rather, God forbid the author throws his futanari fetish all over the place (hmm IMOI hmm). I need everyone who played Suba to check SCA-DI's twitter. Entirely. Mkay? I'm aware Eroges and Visual Novels have a very tied culture for a reason, but how does that excuse half of the scenes in Suba? Felt like they were just spamming sex scenes to fill up the 3 PAGES LONG ALBUM CG!!! Seriously. Now, I'm not a purist either. I didn't mind the sex between Yuki and Tomosane for example even though it wasn't necessary for the plot, but that was because they were both consenting adults (also if you know you know pretty sure that technically wasn't sex but. Shush. I'm not talking about that). Meanwhile, you're gonna tell me the Futa shit, Hasaki rooftop scene and Teacher sequence were needed? I'm not gonna mention Looking Glass Insects since Zakuro getting raped was sadly a part of the story. I had mixed feelings about that too since it was shock value all over the place. But it makes sense as to why it really pushed her over the edge. I've seen someone claim on vndb that the bullies were badly written because they 'didn't have a reason to bully Zakuro and Kimika', but that's just so not true! I'll explain. First, Kimika mentioned it being because they got called cute by one of the bullies' boyfriend (if my memory isn't betraying me?). So basically, it was out of jealousy. But second, and let's be real, bullies don't need a reason to bully you. They don't need to have a tragic homelife to turn out to be absolute assholes either. If they find you just off-putting enough, they'll mess with you. Not even! If you're a target in their eyes for some unfortunate reason, they'll pick on every single thing you'll do, whether it makes sense or not. Was the rape too much though? Was it a line not to cross? Well, of course it's taboo (for a good reason). But with the context they gave us (with Mamiya Takuji / Yuki and Zakuro being unaware of the DID), it did feel 'right' (for a terrible lack of better word) to throw there. It wasn't romanticized, which I'm fine with. Now that I mentioned the negative stuff, going back to something a little more positive... A thing I liked about Suba was the unreliable narrators, all over the place. Especially during the Takuji segment. It was refreshing to get multiple POVs and see how it adds up. Genuinely such an interesting way to build a story. Another thing I REALLY liked was the DID rep (how unexpected). Now, I know some people might interpret it differently with rather Tomo, Takuji & Yuki being multiple 'souls' in one body... which I'm also fine with! Both are valid interpretations. Yuki's dad had a reason to believe in it being spiritual, to cope with the loss of his daughter I'm pretty sure. But in the case of my own interpretation, I'm more tilted towards them being introjects / factives. A detail (that isn't really a detail since it's thrown right in your face) I liked is how the real Takuji and Tomosane 'switched' appearances, and how Tomosane got his back in the end. The symbolism went hard! I would talk about Ayana but she gave me a headache. I really need to play Tsui No Sora first to understand her better, which I tried to!! But I somehow got the original version in Japanese, so. Vntok is gatekeeping the remake so I gotta do my own research and find it on my own. Sad! I skipped breakfast to type this out.
